John Balint
I am... A father, son, husband, a graphic designer, and a recording artist on Blisswave Records, an indie music label I founded in 2001 shortly after the
9-11 tragedies. Working to help counterbalance fear, violence and other forms of psychic negativity, my music soothes and peacefully offers hope, comfort and solace. It is also my response to the ubiquitous beat-driven music of today’s hip hop, rap and other aggressive up-tempo dance genres. Hey, I’m older now... a little more introspective, a little more reflective—and a whole lot happier.
Trained as a pianist, my musical influences span classical, jazz, rock, pop, world, and new age genres. Several astute listeners have commented that they hear these influences in my music: the melodicism of Pat Metheny and Chopin; the cinematic synthscapes of Brian Eno; Keith Jarrett’s joyful piano playing; Sting’s plaintive balladeering; the tight chordal voicings of Bill Evans and the space of Miles.
In 2002, my debut release “Paradise Within” climbed to #2 on the NAV radio charts. I followed it in 2003 with my best-selling “Connected”. Last year’s release, “Silver Linings” marks my debut as a singer-songwriter, with my own vocals adding a new layer of interest and density to my compositions.
Recently, I moved into my new tree-house recording studio! In the majesty of a stately Italian Stone Pine and surrounded by a grove of green bamboo, it’s the perfect space with the perfect energy for creating the next album. I can’t wait to share it with you.
